We were there for Israel's very first Gesha harvest back in 2017, when he was just getting started. That harvest was only a few pounds of coffee, but it was so good that we committed to buying it on the spot. We've been roasting his Gesha every year since, and it's been pretty incredible to watch how far he's come.

This year's Gesha from Israel Hernandez is everything we love about the variety. Delicate hibiscus florals meet the bright, sugary sweetness of lemon drop candy, followed by juicy cherry and melon notes. It's a beautifully complex coffee, with layers of fruit and florality that make each sip a little different from the last.

From First Harvest to Award-Winning Coffee

Israel Hernandez grows coffee near the remote town of Rioblanco in Tolima, Colombia. When we first met him in 2017, he was just beginning to experiment with Gesha. Since then, he's gone on to earn recognition in some of Colombia's most prestigious coffee competitions, including a fourth-place finish in the 2020 Cup of Excellence. We've had the pleasure of sourcing his Gesha every year since that first harvest, and watching his hard work earn the recognition it deserves has been pretty special. This third stop on our Award Tour feels like a long time coming.
